We need to talk about aaron rodgers

It’s no secret that Aaron Rodgers isn’t showing up and showing out the way that many have been previously expected of him. His pass game is lousy; he seems dissatisfied, uninterested, and even more so disappointed in anyone but himself. Even with the addition of his pal Devante Adams, it’s crystallizing how conclusive his future is looking. But how did we get here? Here’s a deep dive into Aaron Rodgers’s history. May we use it as a tool to outline the path of how we’ve arrived at this abysmal showing.

Rodgers started his college career at Butte Community College before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley. He played for the California Golden Bears from 2003 to 2004. During his time there, he gained recognition for his strong arm and accuracy, setting a school record for single-season passing efficiency in 2004. He led the Bears to a significant win over Texas in the 2005 Holiday Bowl, which helped boost his draft stock.

Rodgers was selected by the Green Bay Packers as the 24th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He spent his first three years as a backup to legendary quarterback Brett Favre. In 2008, following Favre's departure, Rodgers became the starting quarterback.

Rodgers quickly established himself as one of the league's elite quarterbacks. His key achievements include:

-       Super Bowl Champion (XLV): He led the Packers to victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011, earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

-       NFL MVP Awards: Rodgers has won the MVP award multiple times (2011, 2014, 2020, and 2021), showcasing his consistent excellence.

-       Pro Bowl Selections: He has been selected to the Pro Bowl numerous times and has set various records for passing touchdowns and passer rating.

Rodgers is known for his quick release, accuracy, and ability to make plays outside the pocket. He’s also recognized for his football intelligence and ability to read defenses. Additionally, Aaron Rodgers stays controversial with his heavy handed opinions about medicinal treatments and “self care”.

Aaron Rodgers joined the New York Jets in April 2023 after a trade with the Green Bay Packers, marking a significant shift in his career. Rodgers brought a wealth of experience and leadership to a Jets team that had been looking for stability at the quarterback position. His presence was expected to elevate the team’s performance and help develop younger players. Unfortunately, Rodgers’ season took a dramatic turn when he suffered a torn Achilles tendon just four plays into the Jets' opening game against the Buffalo Bills. This injury sidelined him for the rest of the season, significantly impacting both the Jets' season and Rodgers' plans.

Following his injury, discussions around Rodgers’ future have been a mix of hope for recovery and speculation about his long-term plans in the NFL. However those hopes have been largely squashed after a deplorable showing against the very much defeated New England Patriots.
